APPENDIX A – CLASSES OF MOTORCYCLES

Motorcycle Classes Selection Explanation

Rimba Raid is about riding big road-going motorcycles in a natural environment on pre-existing trails to their design limits with the objective of setting the fastest possible time. It is for this reason that only road legal motorcycles that passed our scrutineering process be allowed to take part: A motorcycle you can race with, and then tomorrow, ride 1,000kms crossing borders with a pillion behind it. In other words, motorcycles that can be purchased over the counter – not purpose-built, one-off or expensive limited-run prototype vehicles.

Rimba Raid values fairness in competition, consistent with the elements of safety in a race environment where financial investment is not a major hindrance to all competitors desiring to participate. Hence there is equal opportunity for all to achieve a podium finish.

With the variety of different adventure and dual-purpose motorcycles currently available, engine capacities and configurations are the main determinants in categorising the race Classes. There are three Classes of motorcycles:

    1. Class A – Multi-cylinder above 1000cc.
    2. Class B – Multi-cylinder between 250cc – 999cc.
    3. Class C – Single-cylinder between 250cc – 800cc

While all efforts have been made to compile a comprehensive list of motorcycles below, Rimba Raid understands there may be some motorcycles absent from the list. Please do not hesitate to contact the email/phone number below if your motorcycle is absent and we will update the list.
